To meet demand, FedEx increases Memphis to Dubai flights

FedEx Memphis

With trade between the U.S and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the rise, FedEx has added a route to help meet demand.

FedEx Express — a subsidiary of Memphis-based FedEx Corp. — announced Nov. 20 it has increased the frequency of its direct Memphis to Dubai Boeing 777F flight.

In a press release, Jack Muhs, regional president for FedEx Express for the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa, provided the following statement on the increase:

“As the first to launch a dedicated flight between the USA and the UAE, FedEx has unrivaled expertise in shipping from and to the USA, and since 2011, the FedEx Boeing 777F flight has provided unparalleled access to boost trade between the U.S. and the Middle East. Flights on the Memphis-Dubai route also transit through Europe, giving businesses greater access to these critical markets, enabling stronger inter-continental trade links with added capacity between the Middle East into the European Union.”

Over a 10-year period from 2006-2016, U.S. exports to UAE grew 118 percent; the country is currently the 28th largest trading partner to the U.S. Those statistics come from a report from the Embassy of the UAE in D.C. According to that report, aircraft, spacecraft and related parts were the top category of U.S. exports accounting for about $6.5 billion. Non-oil sectors account for 70 percent of the UAE’s GDP.

FedEx serves more than 220 countries and territories and has more than 425,000 employees. FedEx Express accounts for 225,000 of those employees and $36.2 billion of FedEx’s total $65.5 billion total revenue in fiscal 2018.
