Nairobi – The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is set to undergo a major transformation in the next 100 days to streamline and smoothen its operations. The revelation was made during an impromptu visit by three cabinet secretaries to the facility to check on areas that need immediate intervention in order to assure customers of safe and serene services at the JKIA.
Five days after being retained as Cabinet Secretaries by the Head of State, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, his Transport colleague James Macharia and their Tourism counterpart Najib Balala were surprise guests at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Their arrival signalled a long morning for staff and guests at Kenya’s main gateway. They were on a mission to tour the facility to ascertain levels of hospitality management and security preparedness at the airport. Matiang’i says the visit was informed by the need to make changes in the facility to meet international standards. They also want to ensure safety for visitors using the international airport.
The team traversed the airport, stopping at key areas of interest to ask questions. Staff at the Customs department were put to task explain the process of clearing goods, following claims that staff in the department often harass passengers. But of concern to the Cabinet Secretaries was wastage of time during a clearance at the Visa department. In a bid to ensure international best practices of hospitality, the government says all staff working at the JKIA will undergo Guest Relations training.

The team says major changes should be expected within the next 100 days as the Jubilee administration works round the clock in delivering its promise of a smooth and seamless international airport.
