Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) will begin a second train service on the Standard Gauge Railway between Nairobi and Mombasa starting Wednesday next week. The express train service will depart from both Nairobi and Mombasa Termini at 3.30 pm. The corporation currently operates one inter-county train service in the morning.
The launch of the first train service christened Madaraka Express on July 1 from Mombasa to Nairobi meant a cheaper, shorter and safe way of traveling between the two cities.
The Kenya Railways Corporation has since experienced an influx of passengers who now prefer the new mode of transport. Customers are required to book their tickets at least three days early to secure a seat on the train. KRC now says besides the early morning trip which leaves at 9 am in both directions, another trip will be introduced begin 1st November.

The train will be scheduled to depart from Miritini Terminus and Nairobi Terminus concurrently at 3.30pm in an express journey of four and a half hours.
However, travelers will now be required to arrive at the respective train stations earlier as the inter-county train services will now be departing from either of the main stations at 8.00am.

The train will make stopovers at each of the seven intermediate, stations; Mariakani, Miasenyi, Voi, Mtito Andei, Kibwezi, Emali and Athi River.

The corporation has since introduced ticketing via short message service to cut out middlemen who previously bought and resold the tickets exorbitantly.
