Taxify announces new 50%-off Tuesday special on all rides in SA

Mobile lift app Taxify has announced that it will be implementing a 50% discount on all trips across South Africa on some Tuesdays, as part of a new promotion.

Dubbed “Taxify Tuesdays”, a new category will appear in the app on selected Tuesdays – the first being 8 August – giving customers the discount.

The group said that the plan is to make the discount a recurring event, “but we might be limited by the number of available drivers to service the demand,” it said.

“While lowering the prices, we’ll be compensating our drivers with bonuses, so their earnings wouldn’t decrease,” the company said in a press release.

“Drivers will, in fact, have increased earnings due to them serving more clients that day.”

“Our focus is to provide drivers with better revenue per ride and keeping them happy with earnings and support we provide, which leads to ultimately better service for clients.”

Taxify, alongside Uber, has faced criticism from South Africa’s metered taxi industry in recent months due to their unregulated nature and reports that they were deliberately undercutting the market.

The continued violence once again reached a head this past weekend when an Uber driver reportedly had acid thrown at him as part of the ongoing dispute.

In a separate incident, two suspects were arrested this past weekend following a number of cases in which Uber drivers were either hijacked or robbed.
