Nigeria’s Shippers Council initiates truck transit parks across busy corridors

Nigeria – The Nigeria Shippers’ Council (NSC) has initiated the location of Truck Transit Parks, TTPs, across the busy corridors in the country to ease traffic congestions.

A Truck Transit Park (TTP) is a modern, state of –the- art, common user facility, off the highway, where truck drivers can conveniently park their vehicles get accommodation, fuel, food, drinks, rest rooms, showers and other basic supply like oil and spare-parts as well as servicing of their vehicles.

This is just as the Executive Secretary of the Council; Mr. Hassan Bello has expressed his readiness to work closely with Ogun State Government in ensuring that the Ogere Trailer Park is upgraded to a modern truck transit park.

Bello spoke in Abuja during a courtesy visit to the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi According to him, the trailer park has the size to accommodate TTP’s modern facilities, particularly mega filling station, restaurant, and hotel, noting that what is currently on the ground is not a truck transit park.

Also, the Council and the Federal Road Safety Corps are planning a centralized database for all trucks across the country. According to the Agency, the database on the number of trucks and oil tankers in Nigeria will help in tracking and managing the heavy duty vehicles as well as enhance road traffic.

Bello also stated that there was a need for Nigeria to establish modern traffic management systems at seaports in order to decongest the massive number of trucks on some roads leading to the ports.
