Kenyan boat capsizes, leaving ten people dead

 

 

 

 

 

A Tragedy occurred when a boat conveying passengers to Lamu East from Ndau Island  got overwhelmed by high tides along the Mkanda Channel Lamu County and Capsized.

According Kenya County Commissioner, Joseph Kanyeri, the boat, which was heading to Lamu East from Ndau Island, had been overloaded with 16 passengers and 50 bags of cement. Those who died included one man, five women and four children aged between 10 and 17 years.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kind Fahad Hospital, but would be discharged shortly for burial since the victims are Muslims and their tradition dictates so.

The commissioner confirmed that six people had been rescued by local divers and maritime officials, with the rescue operation officially called off.
