FRSC to standardize driving schools

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it will standardize operations of driving schools through the introduction of Driving School Standardisation Programme (DSSP).

Speaking yesterday in Abuja at the national workshop for operators of driving schools in Nigeria, FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi said prior to the introduction of the DSSP, driving schools were operating independently and without regulation.

He said they had no manual or standard operating procedure to guide operations, hence they operated largely under trees with rickety vehicles, without uniform trainee curriculum, making them train students with what they thought was right and not what was correct.

Oyeyemi said the objectives for the standardisation programme were clearly enumerated and includes the drive towards reducing road traffic crashes, through the driving schools, setting uniform standards for all drivers, inculcating safety consciousness amongst other objectives.
