The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) \u00a0is collaborating with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), NEXIM Bank and other investors to build world-class Truck Transit Park ( TTP) in Ogun State to boost the economy and generate more revenue for the government.<\/p>\n

Executive Secretary\u00a0of\u00a0the old truck park in Ogere, along Lagos\/Ibadan Expressway yesterday, Mr. Hassan Bello who\u00a0was in Ogun to assess\u00a0the dilapidated trailer park along the express said the NSC would also collaborate and seek the support of the Ogun State government on the proposed park in the state.\u00a0According to him, This is just a trailer park. What we need is a TTP with hotels and hostels for accommodation purposes, chains\u00a0of restaurants and petrol stations.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the sideline of the visit, some truck drivers\u2019 who had their trucks on the land said the project, when completed, will go a long way in alleviating the pains truckers go through while transiting the ports. In their words, \u201cWe hope this TTP idea becomes a reality because most of us sleep on the road just to gain access to the ports. Aside from the security implication this pose to us, it is also hazardous to our health. \u201cWe laud this initiative of government and hope it is completed in no time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The construction of the park, was part of federal government efforts in decongesting the ports access roads in Lagos and to facilitate quick cargo clearance. Lack of Transit Park at the Nation Seaports has made the ports access roads to be turned into a\u00a0parking lot by truckers entering and exiting the ports in lagos\u00a0making the ports chaotic and not able to perform below capacity. Hence the need for this new initiative which\u00a0would be driven through Public Private Partnership (PPP) in order to\u00a0achieve the desired results.<\/p>\n
