The 2019 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Has Been Unveiled and It Doesn’t Disappoint

Since its founding in 1926, Mercedes-Benz has become an instantly recognizable brand, always appearing at the forefront of innovative design. Much of the same can be said about Maybach, an elite luxury brand that was founded in 1906 and purchased by Mercedes-Benz in 1960.

As a result, any time a new Mercedes-Maybach is announced, car aficionados and those who love all things glitz take serious notice. So when the top model from Mercedes-Benz—the S-Class—is combined with the regal elegance of Maybach, something spectacular occurs.

Which is exactly what happened this week, as the venerable German automaker unveiled the 2019 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class ahead of the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

The new 2019 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is nearly 18 feet long, making it 10 inches longer than any previous model.

The first thing one notices with the 2019 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is exactly what the designers intended to stand out: the extended length of the vehicle. The sedan runs a length of 215 inches (nearly 18 feet) and a wheelbase of 132.5 inches (roughly 11 feet).

That makes this new vehicle exceed the length and wheelbase of traditional S-Class sedans by nearly 10 inches in both dimensions. After the size, the most significant update on the exterior is the grille, which, with its bold vertical lines, emphasizes the focal point of the car.

According to the German automaker, the front grille was inspired by the design of pinstripe suits, and it previously made its way into a Maybach design at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August 2016 with the stunning Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6.

Looking under the hood, the 2019 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class will come with two options for its engine. The Mercedes-Maybach S 560 4MATIC will feature a 463 horsepower, V-8 engine that can zip from zero to 60 m.p.h. in 4.8 seconds. The Maybach S 650, however, will include a 621 horsepower, V-12 engine that can reach 60 m.p.h. in 4.6 seconds.

While the car boasts a powerful engine, the interior is anything but aggressive. Customers will be able to select from two new color combinations: Armagnac Brown/Black and Savanna Beige/Black. What’s more, the vehicle can be ordered with napa leather (among the softest in the world) with a choice of copper, gold, or platinum-coloured topstitching.

At night, the car glows with ambient lighting from dashboard all the way to the rear. Since these types of sedans have been extremely popular with C-Suite owners in the past, the back seats are outfitted with several screens to enjoy. The added length of the car can be felt most in the rear, which has significant leg room.

The 2018 Maybach S560 4MATIC is priced at $168,600 and the 2018 Maybach S650 at $198,700, so while we don’t know the price of the new model, we can deduce that it’ll be in that ballpark. The 2019 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class will go on sale in the U.S. in late summer 2018.
