Tanker drivers deny embarking on strike

Lagos (Punch) – The Petroleum Tanker Drivers, a branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, has denied reports in the media that its members will embark on a strike action from Monday.

The National Chairman, PTD, Akanni Oladiti, said the union did not issue any three-day strike notice to the Federal Government and urged Nigerians to ignore such insinuations.

In a statement on Friday, Oladiti said, “We strongly deny this information, which is false, unfounded and a calculated attempt to cause mischief and panic in the country.

“As a matter of fact, the leadership of the branch met with the Minister of Power, Works and Housing on Thursday, February 1, 2018, where comprehensive reports of all the ongoing repairs and reconstruction of damaged highways were discussed and deliberated upon, with further assurances of immediate palliative works on those that are in very terrible state presently.”

The PTD national chairman added, “We want to also use this medium to assure the general public that our members will ensure that products are delivered to the fuel stations any time products are available at the depots. There is no need to panic because we are not going on any strike.
