The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) is collaborating with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), NEXIM Bank and other investors to build world-class Truck Transit Park ( TTP) in Ogun State to boost the economy and generate more revenue for the government.
Executive Secretary of the old truck park in Ogere, along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway yesterday, Mr. Hassan Bello who was in Ogun to assess the dilapidated trailer park along the express said the NSC would also collaborate and seek the support of the Ogun State government on the proposed park in the state. According to him, This is just a trailer park. What we need is a TTP with hotels and hostels for accommodation purposes, chains of restaurants and petrol stations.
Speaking on the sideline of the visit, some truck drivers’ who had their trucks on the land said the project, when completed, will go a long way in alleviating the pains truckers go through while transiting the ports. In their words, “We hope this TTP idea becomes a reality because most of us sleep on the road just to gain access to the ports. Aside from the security implication this pose to us, it is also hazardous to our health. “We laud this initiative of government and hope it is completed in no time.”
The construction of the park, was part of federal government efforts in decongesting the ports access roads in Lagos and to facilitate quick cargo clearance. Lack of Transit Park at the Nation Seaports has made the ports access roads to be turned into a parking lot by truckers entering and exiting the ports in lagos making the ports chaotic and not able to perform below capacity. Hence the need for this new initiative which would be driven through Public Private Partnership (PPP) in order to achieve the desired results.
