Lagos, Operatives of the Lagos State Task Force will today (Monday) begin phasing out of danfo buses engaging in illegal activities at Ojuelegba and Ikeja under bridges. The Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi said the agency was embarking on the operation after the expiration of a 48-hour quit notice served the operators.
According to him, motorists engaging in commercial activities around Ojuelegba and Ikeja by Ipodo Market, Awolowo Way were served quit notice on Saturday, 9 September 2017 to vacate under the bridges immediately. That activity of illegal garages being operated in the areas was constituting gridlock across the State.
He stated further that no responsible and responsive government would tolerate criminal activities carried out by hoodlums and miscreants around these illegal garages.
The chairman advised motorists engaging in illegal commercial activities under these bridges to comply immediately by removing their buses. He warned that anybody caught fomenting trouble during the enforcement operations would be severely dealt with in accordance with the law.
It would be recalled that earlier in the year the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode had announced plans to ban commercial buses know as Danfo to replace them with the new white and blue buses. But the state government is yet to give any information on when it would take effect.
The state government had s big plans of making a Lagos a mega city in coming years. To achieve this, successive governors have phased out various familiar elements of the city in a bid to develop its systems and infrastructure to catch up with advancements in contemporaries such as Mumbai, Johannesburg, and Rio.
