Edo dry port to commence export operation soon

Benin (The Punch) – The Edo Inland Container Depot will soon commence export activities from its operational base, an official of the port has said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Atlanque Marine Engineering Service, Charles Akhigbe, promoter of the Edo-ICD, announced this at a meeting with the Edo State Export Cluster Group and relevant federal agencies.

According to him, buyers are already on the ground for some of the agricultural produce to be exported from the 56 export clusters. He explained that the ICD was a public-private partnership project driven by the Federal Government, but initiated by the private sector.

Akhigbe said the AMES Edo-ICD would be the second in the country to be inaugurated after the Kaduna ICD. He said that it would be inaugurated in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Reports also quoted the Edo State Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Employment and Cooperatives, Emmanuel Usoh, as saying that the state government was supporting the ICD to boost its Gross Domestic Product.
