DHL Global Forwarding, the logistics arm of Deutsche Post DHL, has published a white paper in partnership with the Cologne Business School, in an endeavor to incorporate sustainable practices into its supply chain.
The white paper lists actions that all forwarders and logistics firms can take to “intensify their environmentally friendly and socially responsible actions while increasing their economic success.”
DHL claims that its move toward sustainable business practices is not just a pursuit of moral martyrdom or an attempt at sweetening the public’s perception the company’s carbon footprint, but a key to long-term success that will reduce transportation costs and waste of materials.
Kathrin Brost, global head of the company’s GoGreen initiative, said sustainable supply chain management will lead forwarders to economic success. “We found that cost and emissions reductions are not contradictory, but often complementary,” she added.
