DHL Freight letting customers specify delivery dates

Freight EuroConnect shipments can be stored up to five business days.

DHL Freight announced Wednesday that effective immediately it is offering customers throughout Europe a fixed delivery day (FDD) service for its Freight EuroConnect product.

The new service allows a customer to hand over a shipment to the DHL Freight network as usual and schedule the delivery up to five business days beyond the regular lead time. DHL Freight then will deliver the shipment on the defined date, the company said in its announcement.

DHL Freight said the new service is designed to provide its customers with added flexibility and precision when planning production processes and supply chains.

“With the new fixed delivery day option, we are customizing transit and delivery times according to the needs of our customers,” said Uwe Brinks, CEO of DHL Freight. “Timing is everything when it comes to planning and managing supply chains and production process. This way our customers receive their shipments exactly when needed.”

DHL Freight said orders can be booked online or by telephone, and a transparent shipment tracking system allows end-to-end tracking from pickup through to final delivery.

When ordering the Freight EuroConnect service, customers can select the FDD service as an additional option. After the shipment is picked up from the customer, it is stored up to five business days within the DHL Freight network so that it can be delivered on time on the specified day.

In Germany and Sweden, customers with domestic shipments also can specify the time of delivery — i.e. before 10 a.m. or before noon.
