Calabar port confirmed safe for business

Calabar port is safe for business – Port Manager

Nigeria. Calabar Port is safe and has not recorded any case of a hijacking of a ship by pirates, the manager of the port, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Olotu, has said.

Olotu, who made the statement on Tuesday in Calabar in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that the port had also not recorded any form of threat from illegal maritime operators.

The manager who commended the Federal Government for adequate funding of the ports said that the port was safe for business in view of the large volume of vessels berthing with liquid products.

“In terms of security, the marine police, the navy, and other security agencies are on the ground to ensure the safety of the vessels along the water ways.

“We are in partnership with the Navy and the marine police; whenever our pilots are going to board vessels, they are accompanied by men of the navy or the marine police.

“We have enjoyed that support and collaboration from these two security agencies,’’ she added.

Olotu said that the Calabar channel is viable for fishing and other maritime activities. She said that staff of Nigeria Port Authority, (NPA) especially those in the water front, are trained regularly in line with international best practices.
