Nigeria’s Airspace Agency hires 40 new air traffic controllers

  • Agency weigh in on safety needs, employed 150 air traffic controller in 10 months
  • Need to urgently beef up depleting number

Lagos – The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency has engaged 40 new cadets following the depleting number of air traffic control officers across the country.

The agency said on Monday that the cadets would undergo various levels of training as recommended by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

The Managing Director, NAMA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, said his administration placed premium on safety over any other consideration, adding that efforts were being made to increase the number of air traffic controllers to a level consistent with global best practices.

He stated, “In line with the determination to enhance the safety of the airspace, a total of 150 air traffic controllers have in the past 10 months of this administration been trained in different cadres and specialization of air traffic control.
