The first-built model of the commemorative-edition 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt sold for $300,000 for charity to highlight the incredible parade of automotive artistry on auction during the final days of Barrett-Jackson’s auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., which wrapped up Sunday.
The 2019 Mustang Bullitt, which made its debut last week at the Detroit Auto Show, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the 1968 model of the car driven by Steve McQueen in the film “Bullitt” of the same year. Proceeds benefit Boys Republic, a California school for troubled kids that McQueen attended.
It was far from the highest-grossing vehicle, however, and it had plenty of competition in the looks department. Top sellers from the weekend included:
- A 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder was the auction’s top sale, netting $1.43 million.
- Not far behind were a 1952 Ferrari 212 Europa and a 1965 Corvette Cutaway Coupe, formerly used as a Chevrolet auto show display stand, both of which hammered for $1.1 million.
- Meanwhile, two Peugeot 205 T16 Rally Prototypes sold for $187,000 and $146,300.
Barrett-Jackson said several vehicle auctions likely set world record sales, including a 1958 Chevrolet 3100 Custom Pickup, which fetched $198,000, a 2018 Dodge Demon($159,500) and a 1951 Cadillac Custom Coupe ($150,700).
The auction also hosted a U.S. president for the first time in its 47-year history when former President George W. Bush dropped by the block along with comedian and car enthusiast Jay Leno. They helped auction a 2018 Chevrolet Carbon 65 Edition Corvette, for the George W. Bush Presidential Center’s Military Service Initiative, which helps post-9/11 veterans and their families transition to civilian life. General Motors donated the car, one of just 650 built, and it sold for $1.4 million.
